One of the most difficult things for parents like us is to make our kids eat their veggies. There are even some occasions wherein we can get into fights with them because they push aside the greens (or veggies in general) on their plates. So if you are having some problems making them eat healthier, especially in the area of vegetables, one of the best ways that you can do is to go creative and present them in a much more kid-friendly way. Here are some great ideas on how you can make your kids love their nutritious vegetables.
Turn Vegetables into Different Forms
One of the best things that you can do with vegetables so that you can make your kids enjoy eating them is to transform turn them into different forms. You can use steamed veggies such as broccoli and turn it into trees or flowers. Cauliflower and sweet potatoes can also be used and transformed into any kind of animal. If you have the time, you can even make a whole a “farm” out of these vegetables. If you have the time, you can even prepare an animal farm with all the vegetables that you have transformed into different characters. This will really make your kids interested!
Serve Vegetables with Their Favorite Foods
Another great idea to make vegetable more kid-friendly is to serve them alongside their favorite foods and treats. One good example is pizza. Almost every kid I met love pizza. So if you want to introduce vegetables to your own kids, you should consider making home-made pizza that combines their favorite toppings with vegetables. You can use mushrooms, sliced carrots, diced eggplants, shredded spinach, tomato slices, and any other veggie you can think of together with the usual toppings. Just don’t forget the cheese!
Make Vegetables into Smoothies and Popsicles
Smoothies and Popsicles are two of the other treats that kids love to enjoy. The market is full of these food products, but they are also packed full with sugar and other additives. So instead of buying them, why not try making your own? This way, you can make them healthier by adding your own ingredients, such as vegetables. You can use sweet potatoes and carrots on your first smoothie or Popsicle try. All you have to do is to puree them, then add plain cold yogurt and milk. Do not forget to add a bit of sugar to sweeten them. You can serve it as a smoothie or freeze them into Popsicles!
Sneak Vegetables into Yummy Baked Goods
If your kids love your baking, then this is a great opportunity for you to sneak vegetables into your yummy baked goods! This will also help eliminate the battle that you have with your kids when it comes to eating their veggies. Before they get home from school, you should try baking brownies made from pureed spinach, white beans, and some chocolate chips. You should also try making muffins with carrots, sweet potatoes, and a bit of chocolate. To top your baked goods off, you can sprinkle some shredded or grated carrots or pipe little carrots (using orange and green icing) on top of them.
